Uniform Policy
The school believes that there is value in a school uniform – it helps children to be proud of their school and to share a sense of belonging. Branded school uniform items can be purchased from either Smarty School wear, High Street Potters Bar, Herts. EN6 5AT Tel: 01707 664505 www.smartyschoolwear.co.uk, or Smiths Schoolwear Cockfosters Branch, 25 Station Parade, Cockfosters Road, EN4 0DW Tel: 020 8381 3622 www.smithsschoolwear.co.uk
Our School Uniform Expectations:
All children: Black shoes, navy blue or black coat/anorak. NAMED coats must be brought into school daily. A plastic painting apron is essential to protect clothes from active learning.
Winter: Grey trousers, skirt, or tunic; white polo shirt with school logo (unbranded items may also be worn); navy v-necked jumper with school logo or cardigan with school logo; white or grey socks or navy or grey tights and black shoes – not slip on ‘ballet style’, because these slip off too easily.
Summer uniform grey shorts; white polo shirt with logo (unbranded items may also be worn); navy gingham dress; navy v-necked jumper with school logo or cardigan with school logo; black shoes. Strappy sandals or ‘jellies’ should not be worn, as these are dangerous on our many stairs. When buying shoes for school, please ensure that they have a good grip and will support the children’s feet.
Children should wear sun-hats in the playground, or field, in hot weather – please ensure that these are white, navy or black and clearly named. You are welcome to apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school, but please do not send the screen in to school, in case another child picks it up and has an allergic reaction.
Long hair should be tied back with a navy hairband or ribbon. Children should not wear nail varnish
Children may wear a formal white shirt. This must be worn with the top button done up and a school tie. Please ensure that the shirt is big enough for the top button to be done up comfortably and that your child is able to fasten the button.
PE Kit
For PE lessons, children should wear plain navy or black PE shorts/tracksuit bottoms/leggings and their house coloured PE Shirts along with a pair of plain trainers which are either black, white or blue in colour. The houses are Rationale – Blue, Progression – Red, Individuality – Green, Imagination – Yellow. You will be told your house in your ‘welcome’ pack and, where possible, we keep siblings in the same house. Children will need plimsolls and spare socks to change into if they are wearing tights. It is helpful if spare underwear and socks are in the PE bag, in case your child needs to be changed, or they get wet. Children should also bring in a navy tracksuit during the colder weather – this is also available from our uniform suppliers.
Children should wear their PE kits into school on each day PE lessons are timetabled to take place. Trainers are not suitable for ordinary PE lessons in the hall, but may be worn for outdoor games, on the advice of the class teacher. For safety reasons, jewellery and earrings should not be worn, except for plain studs in pierced ears. The school cannot accept responsibility for watches or other valuables brought on to the premises.
All items of clothing must be marked clearly with the child’s name.
The school welcomes any good quality out-grown uniform and will pass this on to our pre-loved supplier Smiths – see further information below.
